Leonardo’s “’The Last Supper’ and the Passion of Christ could be texted on phones round the world, after Angela Palmer depicted the story of Holy Week and Easter in emoticons. A special exhibition for Holy Week at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin in Oxford uses the symbols to describe the events from Palm Sunday to the resurrection. When artist Angela Palmer had the idea of depicting Leonardo’s ‘The Last Supper’ in emoticons, she invited Brian Mountford to identify the emotions of the disciples.

Researchers from University College London’s Bartlett School of Graduate Studies have lent their expertise to award-winning artist Angela Palmer. The result is the artwork, ‘See No Evil’, which consists of two perspex sheets sandwiched together to contain 297 dust mites.

“When Angela Palmer creates one of her work of art she likes to use her own body for inspiration. If Angela, who uses MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)scans to create glass-bound images, uses other people for her work, it is fraught with danger.“
